Legacy

JLD Consulting is a name with a purpose.

A lineage of public service, community progress, and practical solutions.

The legacy

Jesse L. Dickinson (1906–1982)

Jesse L. Dickinson was a South Bend civic leader, educator, and public servant who broke barriers as a Black legislator in Indiana. He served six terms in the Indiana House of Representatives and two terms in the Indiana Senate during the late 1950s and early 1960s. He later led the South Bend Housing Authority, expanding low-income and senior housing, and he was instrumental in opening race relations in the city, including the desegregation of the Natatorium.

Shannon Martin is his great-granddaughter and carries forward that commitment to pragmatic, community-first progress.

Public service Legislator and civic leader focused on real community outcomes.
Housing equity Led the South Bend Housing Authority to expand access.
Civil rights Helped open race relations, including desegregation efforts.
